Car Sales down 1.5% in September
New figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) show that new car registrations fell by 1.5% in September (4.684) compared to the same month last year (4,766). However, total new car registrations for the year to date are up 18% (143,201) compared to the same period last year (120,961).
Sales of Light Commercial Vehicles are up 20% to 26,171 so far this year, and up 3% in September compared to last year.
Heavy Goods Vehicles saw an increase of 16% in September and are up 38% on the year to date.
Volkswagen was the top selling make in September, while the top five selling makes for the year to date are Hyundai, followed by Volkswagen, Toyota, Ford and Nissan.
The most popular car in September was the Volkswagen Golf, followed by the Volkswagen Tiguan. Meanwhile the Hyundai Tucson is the most popular car for the year to date.
The report also showed that over 70% of new cars sold last month were diesel and the top selling colour was grey.
