The New Peugeot 5008
Peugeot has unveiled details about the new 5008 before it’s launch at the Paris Motor Show in October. Unlike the current 5008, the new version is no longer a MPV, it’s now a 7-seater SUV, looking to compete with the Skoda Kodiaq and the Hyundai Santa Fe.
The newly unveiled Peugeot 5008 has three objectives:
- To pursue the brand’s up-market strategy.
- To become an international success.
- To become the leading (benchmark) C-segment large 7-seater SUV.
Exterior
The new 5008 has all the hallmarks of an SUV; a long, horizontal bonnet, vertical face and raised body line. The front has a wide grille with chrome fins and the rear features the gloss black strip as well as signature LED ‘claw effect’ rear lights.
Interior
The spacious vehicle is the same height as the previous model, but has an extra 11cm in width and length, giving occupants more room. The three matching, separate, folding seats in the second row are adjustable in length and inclination. The third row has two removable, separate, folding seats with the biggest boot capacity being 1060 litres. The front passenger seat is also foldable which allows you to carry especially long loads.
Technology
The 5008 comes with the i-Cockpit; an 8″ dashboard and spectacular 12.3″ high-resolution digital head-up display. It is bursting with great technology options including: hill assist decent control, automatic braking system, distance alert, active lane keeping assistance, driver attention warning, smart beam assistance, speed sign recognition and speed suggestion, adaptive cruise control with stop feature (automatic gearbox), active blindspot monitoring, park assist and vision park (surround-view parking camera system).
Engine
The engine range will kick off with the following: a 130hp 1.2-litre turbo petrol PureTech three-cylinder engine and a 120hp 1.6-litre Blue HDI diesel engine. Peugeot is claiming low CO2 emissions with only 117/km for the petrol and 108g/km for the diesel.
eF01
There’s an extra option in the booth with the e-Kick, a smart electrically assisted folding scooter, or the e-Bike eF01, an electrically assisted portable bicycle. Both have their mobile charging dockstation.
The Peugeot 5008 is due to launch Spring 2017 following the launch of the 3008 SUV at the end of 2016.
